Warm Up With the Love Kills Slowly Hoody from Ed Hardy!

Spring may be just around the corner, but the whole country is still in the middle of the big freeze. By the time February gets here, I am tired of the winter blahs and gray skies. If you're anything like me, you want to pile on the layers for comfort, but are ready to transition out of winters dark color palette. By adding a few bright colors to your multiple layers clothing, you might get just the boost you need to make it until things start to thaw out.

One of my favorite new transitional items is the Love Kills Slowly Hoody from Ed Hardy. Its white fleece outer has a purple lined hood which plays up the purple in the screen print. The bright floral pattern has a variety of colors including light and dark pink, green, yellow and gray. To give it the real Ed Hardy kick, the designers added their signature skill and heart design to the front.

You'll be able to to wear this hoody year round. Layer it under a heavier jacket or over a thermal top in the colder months. When it's warmer out, you can layer it over a fitted tee or tank top in a bright color. Valentine's Day is notorious for making those of us not involved in a passionate new romance face the day with dread and loathing. However, you don't have to wait to have a hot date on schedule or for a guy to send you flowers and chocolates to indulge in this sweet holiday. Treat yourself instead! Go out with friends, buy your own box of chocolates, pay tribute to grade school by decorating cupcakes for friends or coworkers or buy a festive new top and accessories in celebration of V-day.

Personally, I love any excuse to buy and wear a red top, but Valentine's Day is a no-brainer! Red looks amazing with blue, black or gray denim, is easy to accessorize and flatters a variety of skin tones. For example, if you have pink undertones, stick with blue based reds like cherry, but tawny and olive undertones look better with brown based reds. Pinks work in a similar way. The key is to play up your natural skin tone instead of fighting against it.

My Michelle has introduced a feminine group of red, pink and gray tops as well as an adorable coordinating striped skirt. This winter has been one of the dreariest weather-wise that I can remember. Whether you've been rained out or snowed in, day after day of cloudy skies and cold temperatures really takes its toll on your spirit. However, it is the winter blahs that makes the arrival of spring such a celebrated event!

Spring not only brings a renewal to the earth, but also a renewing of mind, spirit and, let us not forget, wardrobe! That's right- it is time start thinking past the dark colors, chunky sweaters and big boots, and to start thinking about brighter hues and lighter layers.

Not Your Grandma's Wrap...

Over the years, grannies have given the wrap a bad wrap...sorry about the pun! When we think of a wrap, we think of a multi-colored crocheted top, slung on the shoulders or our elderly great aunt. Today's wraps, however, are denim friendly and more figure flattering than the ones of yesterday.

The new wraps have sleeves and seams that are more fitted to your body. This slims you and avoids a bulky, unflattering look. It is made more feminine by the extra wrap fabric drapes in the front. Details like fringe and trendy fabrics are what really separate these from the old school wraps because they give them a young and trendy personality.

One tip to make the most out of this look, is to watch out for styles that are short in the back and long on the sides. If you are comfortable with your behind then these are fine, but if you prefer to camouflage your rear, avoid this shape. This style tends to draw a frame around your behind which is great if you want to show off your denim, but not if your want to minimize the size of your behind. I came to this realization standing behind a plus size woman at the grocery store.

A New Twist on !iT Jean's Diva Jean!

New Sophie from Big Star's Vintage Limited Edition Collection

The Vintage, Limited Edition Big Star Jeans continue to be some of the hottest jeans at The Denim Shop! They have the level of detail and quality that is similar to brands like True Religion, but without the $200+ price tag! Multi-tone stitching, aged denim and vintage looking hardware are all premium details that make these jeans extra special.

Sophie is the newest addition to the Vintage, Limited Edition Big Star Collection. The Sophie has a low rise with a slightly smaller leg opening than the Liv. It is also a little more relaxed through the knee to accommodate a slightly bigger thigh. Tulle's plaid military jacket combines two hot looks!

Two of this season's hottest trends combine to create this chic, plaid military jacket from Tulle. Three quarter length sleeves update the traditional fit to give it a more contemporary look. Gothic and Urban Influences on Men's Streetwear

Goth and urban influences are combined in this year's hottest looks for men. Skulls, ornate scroll work, crosses and fleur de lis designs contribute to the Gothic feel, especially when black and dark gray inks are used. The urban influence comes from bleach marks, paint splatters and the overall tattooed look.

With all of the designers who have jumped onto the bandwagon, you can achieve this look at a variety of prices based on the level of bling you you desire. Layering continues to be a huge trend this season, partly because of all of the vests, jackets and revealing silhouettes available. The other reason is that it is just fun to layer! You can mix and match solids and prints to create dozens of unique looks out of just a few pieces.

The important thing when layering is to have a variety of basics in different colors and shapes. Everyone needs a basic short sleeve tee, long sleeve tee, and tank in black or white, but beyond that it's a matter of personal preference. You might start by taking a look at your wardrobe and seeing what colors will compliment your existing items. By compliment, I don't necessarily mean "match" since a lot of the fun with layering is adding pops of color. Alice in Wonderland Tees Are Starting to Arive

One of the most anticipated movies of 2010 is Tim Burton's new Alice in Wonderland starring the incredibly talented Johnny Depp! This version depicts Alice's return to Wonderland 10 years after her first trip through the rabbit hole. She doesn't remember being there the first time, but while she in Wonderland, she will learn that her true destiny is to defeat the Red Queen who has a moat filled with the heads of her subjects!

After seeing the trailer for this movie over the weekend, I am soooo disappointed that I have to wait until March to see it!

Until then, Junkfood has started the first in their release of a series of Alice in Wonderland tees featuring Alice, the White Rabbit and my favorite, the Cheshire Cat! This super fun tee has the infamous Cheshire Cat grin that is amusing, mystifying and just a little freaky.

This Holiday Season is All About the Bling!

This holiday season is all about the bling with studs, rhinestones, glitter and more! I chalk a lot of it up to the need to bring some dazzle into our lives after a difficult and uncertain year. We all want to feel incredible at the holiday office parties, family gatherings and all of those other little occasions that come up during the holiday season, so here are a few of my favorite ways to add a little sparkle to your existing wardrobe:

Embellished Denim- In my opinion, embellished denim will give you the biggest bang for your buck. You can get away with wearing the same pair of jeans to 2 different parties, but you sure wouldn't wear the same top. Jeans like the Mia Jean shown here from Big Star have just a touch of sparkle on the pockets. Other brands with rhinestone embellishments include Miss Me, Rock Revival, & 7 for All Mankind.
Bold Jewelry- The best thing about jewelry is that you can spend as much or as little as you want to achieve your desired look. However, we admit that buying jewelry for every outfit can get expensive when you're on a tight budget! Fortunately, this season, designers have come up with a solution that will give you the most bling for your buck!

They have found a way for you to get a stylish top and trendy matching jewelry for the price of one by attaching the jewelry to the top. We love these tops, like the one shown here by Unyx, because they jewelry is well-made, not the junky, cheap stuff that you find at discount stores. Keep them clean by using the handwash cycle on your washing machine.

You'll also enjoy the variety of styles you can get, from tanks to tees and with chains, chunky necklaces or fringe. We love the look of these tops layered under a leather moto jacket and paired with dark blue skinny jeans. You can also wear styles like the knit tanks from Vintage Havana over a long sleeve tee for added warmth.

Animal Prints Add Style to Winter Looks!

As the weather turns cooler and the first snowflakes of the season start to fall, our natural inclination is to reach for warm, cozy sweaters and jackets in dull, lifeless colors and prints. Unfortunately, while these do keep us warm, they also add to the blah feeling that comes with these colder days, so why not spice things up?

This season we are really liking the all of funky animal prints that are available. Designers have taken some of their top selling silhouettes given them a wild spin with zebra, leopard and cheetah prints in both traditional and trendy color schemes. Some even have mixed patterns that flawlessly combine a variety of your favorite animals.

Styles like the scoop neck cardigan to the left show how easy it is to wear these looks no matter what size, shape or style you are! Choosing a pattern, like the one to the left by My Michelle, with a pop color woven into, makes accessorizing a no-brainer. Just add a bright, coordinating tank, jewelry or shoes to play up the fun.

Traditional animal prints, like the tunic to the right by Unyx, can be just as chic. Pair leopard tops with skinny jeans and boots or opt for a tunic and wear it with leggings. Add a touch of color with red flats or turquoise jewelry. Because their color pallets are neutral, you could accessorize them with a variety of hues.

If you are not a big family of animal prints, there are other ways to add just a touch of them to your wardrobe. Try a belt with a little faux zebra fur or a cheetah patterned scarf. We also like the animal print bangles that we've seen this season.

Where The Wild Things Are Tees Are Back in Stock!

I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival the movie "Where The Wild Things Are" for what seems like forever now. The postponement and remake of the film have only heightened my anticipation as it promises to be amazing.

Of course, I am not the only one who has been looking forward to the movie premier. Taking cues from this pop culture phenomena, Junkfood Clothing added 2 new additions to their funky assortment of Where The Wild Things Are tees. The raglan is a sporty top with gray burnout sleeves and a gray and red screen print. They also offer a light pink burnout thermal with a soft screen print. Jeans that make your legs look a mile long!

So many women are looking for a jean that will give them that gorgeous, slim, long legged look. Who doesn't want legs that look they just walked off the catwalk? There are a few ways to add a few inches to your look, and we'll share a few of our favorites.

A higher waist- Jeans with higher waists like 7 FAM's High Waist Straight Leg Jean automatically trick your eye into thinking that your legs are longer. You could tuck a ruffled blouse into a high waisted pant to get the full effect. Throw on a jacket and you're set! (Avoid high waisted pants if you are naturally short waisted.)
Add heels- Pick a slightly longer length and pair it with a heel for an instant boost. This season, knee high boots with a heel are a good option to add length to your skinny jeans, like the Rising Starlet by !iT Jeans. Just keep the color scheme dark so that your legs are not divided visually into several sections.
Dark washes- Look for darker washes; they instantly slim you. A little fading on the thighs is ok, but washes with harsh differences visually widen your thighs.
Experiment with different leg widths to see what looks best on your body shape. Long wide leg jeans (like the Dream Diva by !iT), worn with heels are a great way to slim and lengthen a curvy figure. Slimmer body types look nice in a straight leg jean.
